The Peace Dollar was originally intended to be a commemorative coin to mark the end of World War I. But instead it went into circulation as the successor to the Morgan Silver Dollar.
The word "Peace" appears on the coin's reverse side below a perched eagle. Lady Liberty adorns the obverse.
The Peace Dollar was minted from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. It was the last genuine silver dollar issued in the US – no dollar coins after that year contained any silver.
The Peace Dollar was very briefly minted again in 1965 but a political decision caused them to be melted down before any could be released to the public.
